Jeffrey E. Vickers, Saxophone

      Saxophonist Jeffrey E. Vickers is Assistant Professor of Music at Southern Arkansas University,  where his responsibilities include applied saxophone and flute as well as Music History and Music Appreciation. Mr. Vickers has previously taught on the faculties of Alcorn State University (MS), the University of Louisville (KY) and Vincennes University (IN). He was also a graduate Instructor in Music Education at Indiana University. As an artist/clinician for the Selmer Company, he continually promotes the performance of contemporary art music as well as standard saxophone repertoire and transcriptions from other musical eras. He is a member of the Arkansas Arts Council "Arts on Tour" registry and an active recitalist, having presented performances in over a dozen states and at numerous regional, national and international saxophone festivals and conferences. His teachers include Wade Irvin, John Sampen, and Otis Murphy. Mr. Vickers recommends and plays Selmer saxophones exclusively.

        Mr. Vickers is currently “ABD” for the Doctor of Music degree in Music Literature and Performance (saxophone) with minors in music education and jazz studies at Indiana University. He obtained his Master of Music (saxophone performance) from Indiana University with a minor in jazz studies where he studied with world-renowned jazz educator David Baker. Mr. Vickers completed his Bachelor of Music in education at the University of Mississippi. During his study at Ole Miss the Department of Music faculty honored him as “Undergraduate Instrumentalist of the Year” as well as “Music Education Undergraduate of the Year.”  He was also nominated for the Taylor Medal - the highest scholastic recognition offered by the University of Mississippi. Vickers has been honored with induction into the scholastic organizations Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and the Golden Key National Honor Society, and he has also been a member of the musical organizations Kappa Kappa Psi and MENC.  He resides with his wife and two daughters in El Dorado, AR.
